Something Red – 30-Day Christmas Card-Making Challenge

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, Martin Stone (Martin’s Mayhem) from the UK is doing a 30-Day Christmas Card-Making Challenge. I am going to give this fun challenge a try. He has created some awesome challenges. The day one challenge is Something Red.

For the Something Red challenge, I made a Slide and Lock card. It is basically a Gate-Fold card with a slide/lock mechanism.

The card base is Real Red and the designer series paper I used is Boughs of Holly. These beautiful papers embrace the classic emerald green and rich reds we love to see at Christmastime with poinsettia, holly, and evergreen motifs. It also includes a more neutral birch tree bark pattern, soft polka dots, and abstract swatches of classic seasonal colors. 

For a typical gatefold card, you would score your cardstock at 2 1/8 on each end. I decided to score my card base at 1 1/2 and 5 3/4 inches. The sentiment is from the stamp set Hope and Peace.

To create the mechanism
You will need 4 pieces of cardstock that measure 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 each

Score two of the pieces at 1 1/4 and burnish the score lines.

Using Multipurpose Liquid glue, adhere one of the folded pieces to a 2 1/2- inch square cardstock. Make sure the scoreline face toward the middle. Then adhere the second fold piece.

Finally, adhere the last 2 1/2-inch square cardstock on top.

Assembling the card
Burnish the 1 1/2 inch scoreline then adhere the designer series paper.
Slide the mechanism onto the card.
Fold over the right side of the card and insert it into the mechanism and burnish your scoreline (you will have a small gap).
Adhere the designer series paper.

The sentiment panel measures 3 5/8 x 2 1/2 (Real Red). The Evening Evergreen cardstock measures 3 3/8 x 2 1/4 and the Basic White cardstock measures 3 1/8 x 2. I stamped the sentiment in Real Red ink.
Once assembled, adhere to the slide/lock mechanism.

I really had fun making this new fun fold card. I’m thinking of making more for swaps when I go to Onstage later this month.
